5 Reasons to still grow autoflowers in July 2023

Summer is in full swing, and in most places in Europe, the heat is almost too hot to handle. Do you wish you'd sown a seed and reap the rewards of the hot sun? You might think it's too late to grow auto-flowers, but the time is always now with these plants. The wonderful thing about auto-flowers is they don't rely on set daylight cycles to start flowering. An auto will flower 21 days after germination whether you want it to or not. If you live in the right part of the world, you can, in theory, grow auto-flowers all year round. If you need another reason to move to the Mediterranean, there it is. Still not sure it is worth your time? Here are five reasons it is not too late to grow auto-flowers.

1. Automatic flowering

It's all in the name of automatic cannabis. Auto-flowers flower without the need for a strict light cycle. Three weeks from germination, they will start to flower regardless of the light it has had. The self-flowering nature is ideal if you live in northern Europe and the summers are shorter. And perfect if you live further south and can maximise the warmer climates and longer days.

2. Autos’ are fast flowering

Not only do they flower without human interference, they flower quickly. An auto-flower can be great for growers in a hurry because the average auto-flower variety will go from seed to harvest in 8-10 weeks. However, some are known to take 10-12 weeks. If you sow seeds now, you could be looking at a decent harvest by the end of September / beginning of October. Even if you live in some parts of England or Denmark where the summers can be shorter, it's still not too late to grow auto-flowers. There are things you can do to help your plants thrive, like moving them to a greenhouse to protect them from harsh rain.

3. Stealth

Auto-flowers are more suitable to hide than feminised varieties because they are smaller. The average auto grows between 1 - 1.5 metres tall and is more manageable. They are compact by nature and tend not to bring attention like bigger plants. This discretion works two ways. It avoids prying eyes and frees up valuable space in the grow tent or garden.

4. Adaptability

Due to the robust nature of auto-flowers, they are highly adaptable to their environments. The gene used to breed autos - ruderalis - was discovered near the arctic circle. Ruderalis is the reason for the self-flowering nature and short life cycle. It also helps them adapt to any environment and produce a harvest no matter what. The quality might vary, but auto flowers always flower.

5. Learning and development

We all have to learn sometime, and it's always a good time for learning. Auto-flowers are perfect for anyone who wants to do homework and study how a cannabis plant grows. There are loads of tips and tricks you can pick up online and try out. Now is the perfect time. Get in a practice run and take your growing to the next stage.

Conclusion: It's not too late to grow auto-flowers

So, it's not too late. It's never too late to grow auto-flowers. The time is always now, the flowers might not always be the best, but there will always be flowers. And if a sunny September and October is just something you see in the movies, well, LEDs have come a long way, and you can grow indoors all year through.
