Cannabis Grow Inspiration to try in 2021

The first half of 2021 looks like it will be much like the last half of 2020. Locked down. For some, the thought of another lockdown is not worth bearing but for others, growers in particular, another lockdown is perfect to hone their home growing techniques. To clarify, we're not celebrating being locked down; we want to inspire you to make the most of early 2021 by trying something new. It is a New Year, after all.

1: Try out a new strain

Deep Candy: 2021 is not the year for giving up sweets. Greenhouse wants to create the aromas of your childhood candy shops and this sugary addition will not let you down.

Lemon Mochi: This new hybrid is a part of Karma's new LemonTini collection and produces a gassey, fruity hybrid that will please lovers of lemon strains.

Banana Kush Cake Auto: This Sensi Seeds offering was apart of the Sensi research project and is one of the most genetically interesting strains they have to offer. It has so far caused plenty of intrigue by producing several different phenotypes.

2: Try a different growing technique

LST – Low-Stress Training

LST involves placing a net the width of your tent (like for SCROG or SOG), then topping your plants and bending them through the net to produce several more top colas. Prune away all the lower parts of the plant that will be deprived of light but keep the fans leaves as they will continue to provide your plant with energy.

By bending the top of your plants without breaking them, it tricks them into thinking it's without a top and it starts to produce more tops lower down the plant.

These are not the only growing techniques out there. A quick search online will turn into hours of reading.

3: Breed your own cannabis genetics!

Spending more time at home could be the perfect excuse to experiment with breeding. We say 'experiment' because breeding cannabis plants is not for everyone. It takes years to become a master breeder. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try or that you won't become a master breeder. They all start somewhere and sometime.

If you have experience growing cannabis plants and have knowledge of selecting phenotypes, telling male plants from females, with a little extra preparation, you'll be ready to breed cannabis plants.

First, you'll want to select your genetics and breeding technique. Use organic or genuine stable genetics you will have the best chance to create something you're happy with. The technique you choose depends on your objective. Do you want to breed a clone-only strain? Bring outdoor indoor and breed from batch preferred by traditional farmers?

You could be the next poly hybrid specialist or you could try backcrossing two variants of the same strain. The possibilities are unlimited, though one certainty exists: even small breeding set up's would require plenty of room to set up a nursery and propagation and for different rooms/tents for male and female plants. It will be a lot of work to breed and don't forget you will still have to name your newly created strains. We will leave the pandemic related strain names to you.

4: Upgrade your grow

If you didn't get the grow gear you wanted at Christmas, why not treat your self? Beat the January Blues with your favourite blue strain under the latest LED's assisted by the latest automated grow technology. The tech really can do most of the work. Feeding controls will control when and what your plants are fed and climate controls ensure you have the optimal temperatures at the right time. New efficient LED's will reduce your energy output. Drip irrigation is a type of micro irrigation that will potential save water and nutrient by drip feeding your plants.  Any upgrade can be expensive but whatever choose will make your growing set up more efficient and as a result your end product will better.
