How it started: Late 1980s'
The Barneys Farm story began in the late 1980s', during what is considered by some as the first golden age of cannabis
A group of friends met in the Himalayas and started collecting seeds; they spent three years travelling across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and China, unknowingly laying the foundations for what became a world-famous seed bank.
Return to Amsterdam: Early 90's
A member of the group, Derry, decided to return to Amsterdam in 1992 and use the knowledge he had attained and the seeds he had collected to breed cannabis strains specifically for the coffee shop market.
Derry's cannabis strains were overwhelmingly popular, and before long, he took over an established Amsterdam coffeeshop and rebranded it.
Barneys Farm was officially born
Derry continued his work by gaining more knowledge of the strains he was working with and experimenting with them to diversify cannabis genetics. His work led to many famously unique cannabis strains being available through Barney's farm and other trusted retailers such as Amsterdam Seed Center.
The fact that brands like Barneys were established and grew into mammoths of the cannabis industry is all the more remarkable, given that it all happened before the birth of the internet age and the budget airlines that made it easy for so many tourists to travel cheaply.
Naughties to now
The Barneys Farm success story continued into the new Millenium, and little more than a decade later, Barneys made the most of changing US attitudes toward cannabis.
Barneys made the West Coast of the USA a focal point in a relentless search for inspiring genetics. The US work involved selecting new strains to develop in lab conditions and have crossed some of the most famous American cannabis strains, such as Girl Scout Cookies, Gorilla Glue, Zkittlez, and OG Kush.
American influence is clear with cannabis strains like Glookies, Gorilla Zkittlez, and Gorilla Glue Auto.
What next?

We've chosen G13 Haze because although Barneys is one of the most transparent cannabis seed breeders, some of their strains will always be mysterious. G13 Haze is a G13 crossed with a Skunk #1, crossed with a Hawaiian Haze. This is quite a lot of information, but the G13 will always add mystery. We know that the G13 Haze is strong at 25% THC, and to quote Barneys, its effect is "powerful, heavenly, and unforgettable."
