Dutch Passion: Amsterdam pioneers since 1987
Dutch Passion was founded in Amsterdam in 1987 by Henk van Dalen, who had been collecting and breeding cannabis seeds since the 1970s. That makes it one of the oldest seed companies in the Netherlands. Few breeders have shaped home growing as much: Dutch Passion helped bring both feminized and autoflowering seeds to the market, and many of its strains have been grown in gardens across Europe for decades.
Innovations that changed home growing
- Feminized seeds: in the late 1990s Dutch Passion was one of the first seed banks to sell feminized seeds, so growers no longer had to remove male plants.
- Autoflowers: together with The Joint Doctor, Dutch Passion was one of the early developers of autoflowering seeds.
- Outdoor genetics: strains like Frisian Dew and Hollands Hope were bred for the cool, damp climate of Northern Europe.
- Beyond THC: Dutch Passion was early with CBD-rich seeds and now also offers the THCV-rich THC-Victory and the CBG-rich CBG-Force.
More than 100 Cannabis Cups
Dutch Passion has won more than 100 Cannabis Cups since 1992. Blueberry took the Indica Cup at the 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, and Euforia and Mazar also won early trophies. Newer strains keep the streak going: Kerosene Krash won cups three years in a row, Auto Cinderella Jack has won several times as an autoflower, and Melonade Runtz picked up a cup in 2024.
The Dutch Passion range
- Feminized seeds: classics like Blueberry, Orange Bud and White Widow next to modern hits such as Ice Cream Haze and Melonade Runtz.
- Autoflower seeds: one of the largest auto ranges of any breeder, from the big-yielding Think Different to the stealthy Auto Duck.
- Regular seeds: the original genetics, including Skunk #1, Durban Poison and Orange Hill Special, for breeders and collectors.
