Weed and COVID-19

Weed and COVID: A Surprising Truth About Smoking in Times of Pandemic

Cannabis has already become a part of the everyday lives of many people who live in the blessed areas where smoking is legal because weed makes things better. So, what do you do when the whole world seems to come crashing down, and you are under the lock with no power to change the situation? Right, you try to make things better for yourself, and smoking weed might just be the best way to reduce stress during those trying times and feel a bit better.

At this point, you might wonder whether smoking weed has any positive or negative effect upon your chances to get infected by the Corona and whether it is recommended to consume cannabinoids in times of pandemic. Some might even wonder whether marijuana kills coronavirus. Well, considering how little time has passed since the beginning of the pandemic, we lack scientific evidence to tell you exactly how smoking influences the spreading of the virus, but we did our best and found some information that might become an eye-opener for many smokers.

Smoking weed during quarantine

Can I Smoke Weed During the Quarantine?

Well, it depends. Let’s be clear here, - Corona is nearly harmless to people with perfect health and good lungs, so you might want to keep your lungs as safe as possible, so if you ever get Corona, you can recover safely and without any harmful outcomes. Smoking weed once or twice a week would not do any damage to your lungs, so you don’t have to worry about that. But! If you are a heavy smoker, if you smoke cannabis frequently and also smoke tobacco on a regular basis, your lungs might already be in poor condition, which increases your risk of complications in the case of the COVID-19. That is why you might want to reduce the amount of smoke you inhale or abstain from smoking at all, and maybe shift to alternative modes of weed consumption.

The good news is that cannabinoids do not influence your chance of contracting Corona on their own, which means you can consume weed in the form of edibles or using the vaporizers without any damage to your immune system. Weed, as of itself, does not produce any lasting negative effects upon your health when used in moderation. Moderation is the word you must pay attention to when you read this! Weed can produce numerous positive effects upon your health, which is a scientific fact, and countless studies have already shown that cannabis can be a huge supplementary agent when it comes to treating numerous diseases. Does weed kill coronavirus, though? No, it does not, at least from what is known so far. This is why you need to be realistic about your smoking habits and understand that irresponsible use of weed can harm you both in times of COVID-19 pandemic and in general.

I Want to Get High, What Do I Do?

Well, if you live in the areas where weed is legal, you can order a delivery from one of many dispensaries and get yourself your favorite weed. Most dispensaries did not even raise their prices, but the only thing that might be a problem is the increased delivery time. Dispensaries warn the clients about possible delays and ask for their understanding, which is why you need to take that into consideration. However, most weed dispensaries and headshops operate online, and you can get your weed delivered to your doorstep.

As has been mentioned above, smoking is not exactly the best option right now. Again, if you are not a frequent smoker, you do not have to worry because your lungs are probably safe. Still, if you want to be extra cautious, it is best to use vaporizers or eat some cookies instead. These modes of cannabis consumption would minimize the damage to your lungs and make it harmless. Remember, weed consumption has not been associated with increasing or reducing your chances of getting Corona in scientific literature, so we cannot tell you anything specific on the matter. What is known for sure, though, is that cannabis smoke produces nearly as much damage to your respiratory system as tobacco smoke does, which means that you should not indulge in weed smoke too much.

Smoke-damaged lungs would have a much harder time in case you do get Corona, which we hope never happens, so you would surely want your lungs to be as prepared and as healthy as possible. The good news is that lungs tend to heal over time, and depending on how damaged they are by now, they might take from weeks to years to restore completely. Of course, if you have been a heavy smoker for years, your lungs would need much more time to heal, but it is still better to avoid smoking at least for now.

Stay Calm

What we know for sure is that weed does reduce stress, and stress, in its turn, may impact your negative system in a negative way, which is undesirable in these trying days. Staying home all the time, having all the public places locked down, and not seeing all of your friends and family for too long might be really stressful, which is where weed comes in handy as a real life-saver. Smoking a joint or vaping once or twice a week might just be the right thing to do to reduce the stress and pressure of being put under the lock.

Reducing stress would surely produce a positive impact upon your immune system, and paired with exercises and proper nutrition, you’ll have yourself a real weed coronavirus cure. We cannot stress that enough: you must remember about moderation and avoid smoking, vaping, or eating weed too much – this might detriment your health, which is highly undesirable in times of pandemic. That is why you need to be smart about your cannabis consumption and not let your desire to just relax take the best of you. Weed is only good when used wisely, and you need to remember that at all times to avoid any complications.

On a sidenote: Watching your own weed grow from cannabis seeds to maturity is a very joyful, calming and relaxing process. You will definitely enjoy the process of producing your own homegrown cannabis!

Wrap Up

To wrap, or should we say roll it all up, there’s not enough scientific data on whether weed influences the spreading of coronavirus or not. However, we do know for sure that weed has been associated with a variety of positive health effects, which allows us to make a sort of an educated guess on what to expect smoking pot during the pandemic. Cannabis itself is not harmful, and considering its stress-reducing qualities, you can say that it is beneficial to smoke it from time to time to reduce stress and strengthen the immune system, which are good things when you try to avoid contracting a viral disease. However, smoking itself causes a harmful effect on the respiratory system, which is not a good thing when you try to keep your lungs safe.

That is why it is not recommended to consume pot via smoking or at least minimize this mode of consumption. All of these precautions are essential for helping you stay healthy and avoid getting infected by the Corona or at least reduce the risk a bit.
