Autumn is here; for Amsterdam Seed Center, it is time to prepare for Cannafest. AKA, The International Fair of Cannabis and Medicinal Herbs. We love visiting Prague and meeting some people that usually buy cannabis seeds online. And we love meeting new and familiar faces. Come and meet our team at STAND 5B-18. What is Cannafest?
Cannafest is the Czech Republic's premier Cannabis expo and is the largest trade show of its kind, and 2022 is the 12th year of Cannafest. It will again take place in the beautiful Gothic city of Prague. Previous years have seen the international cannabis fair welcome exhibitors from 27 countries. The organizers hope this year will see record numbers of visitors and exhibitors and expect almost 300 stands and over 31,000 visitors. Ticket holders for the Cannafest expo will get exclusive access to exhibitions of cultivation technology, fertilizers, cannabis seeds, smoking accessories, hemp, CBD products, and more.
Cannabis in the Czech Republic
Since the country's foundation in 1993, the Czech Republic has operated a liberal policy on cannabis use which shows in worldwide smoking figures, with over 19% of young adults in the Czech Republic reporting smoking cannabis. Possession of cannabis in the Czech Republic was decriminalised in 2010, and medical cannabis was legalised in 2013. Recreational cannabis remains illegal in the Czech Republic despite the Czech ranking in the top 20 worldwide per capita for cannabis users. Prague is also one of the host cities of the Million Marijuana March, which takes place in 300 cities worldwide to fight for the complete legalisation of cannabis everywhere.
The national authority seems to have relaxed attitudes towards recreational users while taking a hard line against the growers. Czech media recently covered the case of a grower sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for cultivating 21 cannabis plants.
Why is Cannafest important?
Despite more liberal attitudes across Europe towards cannabis, it is still largely illegal, and there are few chances for the cannabis community to gather in high numbers. Cannafest is the best opportunity for the Czech cannabis community to interact with each other and interact with visitors and exhibitors from all over the world. Cannafest is a festival of cannabis and is a genuine reason to visit Prague. The venue is a short taxi ride from the center of Prague, and there are fewer more stunning European cities to spend time in after a long hard weekend at the expo.
